‘Dharwad’is derived from Sanskrit word ‘Dwarawata’, Dwara means ‘Door’ & Wata means ‘Town’. It acts as a gateway between Malenadu & Bayaluseeme. Dharwad means a place of rest in a long travel.
Dharwad is atleast 900 years old, a historically important place ruled by Chalukya’s , Vijayanagara empire upto the British Colonizers.
Dharwad is the city where the first fight for ‘Karnataka Ekikarana’ was staged. Hence it holds a special place in the hearts of people of Karnataka.
Dharwad is known as ‘Chota Mahabaleshwar’ due to its excellent climate throughout the year.It has plenty of greenery consisting of rare plants, trees and birds.
Dharwad is also popularly known as ‘Vidyakashi’ as it is the educational hub of north Karnataka consisting of four universities, IIT and prestigious educational institutions.
Dharwad is the literary, cultural and knowledge capital of the state. Some of the greatest writers of kannada literature like Dara Bendre, V.K.Gokak, Girish Karnad, Channaveera Kanavi and many more are from Dharwad itself.
Bharath ratna Pandit Bheemsen Joshi, Gangobai Hanagal, Mallikarjun Mansur are the famous Hindustani musicians from Dharwad.

In this context, parama Poojya Jagadguru established Sri Adichunchanagiri Shikshana Rrust ® in the year 1974, which is rendering social charitable, Educational, Madical. Engineering & MBA Courses blended with spiritualism to the people of Karnataka.
Under The trust runs more than 650 Education & Charitable Institution in Karnataka including 02 Medical Colleges, 04 Engineering Colleges, 12 Diploma Colleges & Many more. Most of our institutions were based in southern part of Karnataka.
To extend the service of Sri math further, especially to the Northern parts of Karnataka Paramapoojya Mahaswamiji choose Dharwad which is popularly known as “Vidya Kashi” as the home ground.To render the service to all parts of North Karnataka Sri math has purchased lands in Koodalasangama, Bagalakote, Belagavi, Gadag and Bijapur.
In 2003-04 Parmapoojya Mahaswamiji laid the foundation stone for BGS Education centre at Vikas Nagar, Dharwad. Initially the school was started with 09 Studentsnow 1000 students are studying in it. BGS Education centre offers a quality education to the students belonging to all section of the society Irrespective of caste & creed.
The present pontiff of Sri Math Parmapoojya Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji himself holds an Engineering degree from IIT who blended Technology along with Knowledge & Science popularly known as “Jnana, Vijnana & Tantrajnana.” To extend the support to empower the north Karnataka in 2018-19 academic year BGS Science & Commerce PU College was opened in Vikas Nagar, Dharwad.

BGS EDUCATION CENTRE DHARWAD focuses distinctly on three different age groups who are cared for across three important schooling categories – kindergarten, primary & secondary. In the year 2003, at Vikas nagar we started BGS School recognized by Govt. of Karnataka with 20 students and 02 staff members. At present we have 600 students from kindergarten to higher primary and 17 teaching staff.
In the academic year 2012-2013 under BGS EDUCATION CENTRE, we started Sri Adichunchanagiri English Medium High School, recognized by Govt. of Karnataka, with 04 students. At Present high school comprises 175 students and 08 teaching staff.
We have some of the most ideal learning environments for intellectual, social and physical acumen. Teachers create a synergy between strong foundational knowledge and critical thinking which the students learn and internalize in smart classrooms.
We have created history by achieving 100% result in SSLC for the past 04 consecutive years.
Preparing an aspirational youth for a better future.
We are aware of the growing significance of reason and problem solving in shaping one’s career. Under BGS Education centre Dharwad, from the academic year 2018-19 we started BGS SCIENCE & COMMERCE Pre University College accredited by Dept. of Pre University Education, Govt. of Karnataka. We offer combinations PCMB in Science stream & BASC in Commerce stream and specialized training for competitive entrance examinations. At present we have 19 students who have chosen Science and 15 students who have opted for Commerce.
BGS PU College offers PU integrated program which provides for additional coaching for various entrance exams such as JEE, KCET, NEET &AIMS entrance exams by exclusive expert trainers.
PUC integrated program provides printed course materials and practice tests.
Additional classes are conducted during summer vacation for 2nd year PUC students before their classes commence in the month of June.
