Initially KRPet was known as Attiguppe because its known for cotton plantations. Later “Attiguppe” was renamed as KRPet on the auspicious celebration of the birth century of Krishnaraja Vodeyar III in 1891.
S.M Lingappa, the first MLA of KR Pet, sacrificed his life for the upliftment of the people belonging to every corner of the society. He started S.M Lingappa Higher Primary school in 1973 which inculcated Gurukula system of education with the intention of providing both Kannada and English medium, value based education to the students belonging village areas. He had dreamt of providing higher education through this institution but his dream could not come true because he breathed his last at the age of 74. After the death of this great personality, no one wanted to take up the responsibility of this institution. All the trusties decided to handover the institution to His holiness Paramapoojya Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Dr.Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji, then the president of Sri Kshethra Adi Chuchanagiri.
With the blessing of Mahaswamiji, S.M Lingappa institution was changed to one of the branches of SriACST in2000. The school which started with 87students has bloomed into a full fledge learning center with BGS education center, Sri SACST High School, BGS Independent PU College, SKVS Art and Commerce College and BGS Hostel. With able guidance of Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha swamiji, BGS IAS and KAS Coaching center has also been established.
Nowadays with the perception of Sri Dr. J.N Ramakrishne gowda, this institution has been emerging with marvelous building, well-equipped laboratories, computer lab, spacious classrooms, library and other facilities. The institution has been maintaining a hostel with reading room, kitchen, hall, dining hall and prayer hall for more than 100 students.
Through the BGS education center, the students belonging to agricultural background, under privilaged and labor class are studying without the discrimination of caste, creed and religion.
The successful personalities who studied in this institution are seen in the field of medicine, technology, police department, army and sports.
With the blessings and the advice of Mahaswamiji, the dedication, devotion, determination, perception, passion and persistence of the staff, the education center is reaching mountainous height. It one of the well known institutions in Mandya district which attracts all the corners of the society.

BGS Education center is located at K.R.Pete town which is 15km from the historic site, Shravanabelagola and 20km from historically well known Bhuvarahanatha temple. To encourage concentration and devotion towards studies a calm atmosphere has been provided.
